Position

Dr. Liz Hoffman serves as Director of SRNL’s Office of Innovation and University Engagement. She is responsible for the management and integration of programs designed to further scientific innovation within the laboratory. Programs include the Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) Program, Postdoctoral Researcher Program, and University Engagement Program. All three innovative programs advance the state of science through collaboration and partnership.

Experience

With a background in carbide and carbon materials, Liz joined SRNL as a researcher working on degradation of materials in extreme environments. Her research spanned a range of material systems and processes, with projects including investigations into metallic whisker growth, nuclear waste corrosion control programs, accelerated aging of elastomeric seals and alternative materials for accident tolerant nuclear fuel applications. Her experience also includes managing the SRNL LDRD program and serving as an R&D group manager.

Recent Noteworthy

She is a Fellow of ASM International and a Board of Trustees member for the technical society, leading the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Board Task Force. Through her leadership on the DEI Task Force, the society has developed and issued a Principles for a Stronger Community statement and identified and provided training to international society leadership on the topics of allyship and inclusion.
