Position

As the Safeguard and Security Director at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), Wendell Edwards is responsible for overseeing physical security, classification, and nuclear material control and accountability.

Experience

Edwards has 34 years of combined experience with physical security and law enforcement. Before joining SRNL, Edwards supported NA-23 Non-Proliferation Surplus Plutonium Disposition as the security subject matter expert. He also managed Savannah River Nuclear Solutions Physical Security representatives and the Vulnerability Assessment Team. Before SRNS, Edwards worked with Wackenhut Services Inc. (WSI)/ Centerra as a safety lieutenant overseeing safety concerns and as a physical fitness instructor, responsible for all aspects of physical fitness training. Edwards was also a patrol supervisor with the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Recent Noteworthy

Wendell was instrumental in the security work to support the first Surplus Plutonium Disposition (SPD) shipment to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. Wendell is also an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Savannah River Site Local Insider Threat Working Group.
