Dale Sivils

Bio

Dale Sivils is the director for the Plutonium Processing Program at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). In this role, he is responsible for the emerging SRNL nuclear weapons program, which includes product engineering, production process development, analytical chemistry, materials characterization, and quality engineering.

Prior to this role, Sivils was the director of science and technology for the Weapons Production Technology Program office. He has also held the position as executive team leader for pit production technology at SRNL, where he served as the pit production technical authority, and primary interfaced with the weapon design agencies for product engineering.

Sivils spent 20 years in various leadership roles at Los Alamos National Laboratory, including director for the production agency’s quality division, executive advisor for Plutonium Sciences and Manufacturing, senior Science and Technology advisor for the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) military applications and stockpile operations, and group leader for Applied Chemical Technology. Additionally, he is a four-time winner of the Defense Programs Award of Excellence and is a recipient of Research and Development World Magazine’s “R&D 100 Award.”

Sivils has a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Arkansas-Monticello, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
