SRNL, Duke University Announce First Joint Appointment
Savannah River National Laboratory and Duke University recently announced a first for the two institutions with the appointment of Dr. Jason J. Amsden to collaborate on research activities between the two institutions as a joint appointee.
“I am honored to receive this joint appointment with SRNL,” said Amsden. “I look forward to working with SRNL to leverage transformational technologies to address emerging challenges.”
Amsden is an associate research professor with the Duke University Pratt School of Engineering’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has led the resurgence in interest in cycloidal mass spectrometers in the past five years.
“Dr. Amsden’s expertise in both computational sensing and the development of novel mass spectrometry systems will be an invaluable asset to strengthen SRNL’s equities in support of national security mission needs,” said Danielle Mannion, a scientist at SRNL. “This appointment will also foster new collaborative opportunities with Duke University to address the scientific and technical mission challenges of the Department of Energy.”
SRNL’s Joint Appointment Program is designed to strategically increase the number of collaborations between SRNL and U.S. academic institutions to further research and technical workforce activities of interest to both SRNL and academia. Joint appointees serve as a bridge between academic institutions, SRNL researchers, and students to deliver the future workforce for SRNL and the Department of Energy.
