Bio

Phuong Pham earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Kennesaw State University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry from Florida International University. She currently works as a scientist at the Savannah River National Laboratory, where she is researching new technologies for detecting airborne alpha particles and for remediating tank waste and low-level waste.

Pham’s Thursday morning presentation features an innovative large-area airborne contamination monitoring system being developed, featuring high-efficiency particulate absorbing (HEPA) air purifiers and scintillating materials, combined with a digital scientific camera or a position-sensitive photomultiplier tube (PS-PMT). This advanced monitoring system is designed to effectively monitor alpha airborne contamination during outdoor decommissioning and decontamination activities.
