SRNL Names Dana Hewit as Deputy Laboratory Director for Operations

September 15, 2025

AIKEN, S.C. — Savannah River National Laboratory today announced Dana Hewit will join the laboratory mid-October as deputy laboratory director for operations.

Hewit comes to SRNL from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she led the Office of Integrated Performance Management, supporting the development, integration and implementation of the mission support strategy for the laboratory. Hewit will serve as SRNL’s chief operations officer in her new role, ensuring the laboratory operates safely, securely and efficiently in support of the Department of Energy’s mission. She will oversee facilities and infrastructure, mission support services, safety and security — providing the operational foundation which enables SRNL’s scientists and engineers the resources they need to be innovative and succeed.

“Dana brings deep experience in laboratory operations and a proven record of leadership,” said SRNL Director Johney Green. “Her expertise will be instrumental in strengthening SRNL’s operational capabilities as we continue to expand our mission impact.”

“I am honored to join SRNL at such an exciting time for the laboratory,” said Hewit. “I look forward to working with the talented operations team and staff across the lab to build on SRNL’s strong foundation of safety, security and mission support.”

The addition of Hewit further strengthens a refreshed SRNL leadership team. Green, who became laboratory director earlier this year, has brought strong vision and national laboratory leadership experience from ORNL and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Tammy Taylor was appointed deputy laboratory director for science and technology earlier this year after previously leading SRNL’s Global Security Directorate and holding senior posts at both Los Alamos National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Brian Bluhm was named associate laboratory director for global security in June, joining two other SRNL associate laboratory directors. Bluhm joined SRNL from the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation Research and Development program after serving as deputy division leader for nuclear engineering and nonproliferation at LANL. Together, Green, Taylor, Hewit and Bluhm add depth and breadth of experience to an already accomplished leadership team, positioning SRNL to expand its impact and strengthening its critical role in advancing national security, environmental stewardship and energy resilience.
