Actinide Separations Conference

49th Actinide Separations Conference

June 16-18, 2026

Augusta Country Club
655 Milledge Rd.
Augusta, GA 30904

The Actinide Separations Conference provides a forum for scientists and engineers to present and discuss the results of current research activities, operating experiences, and other matters related to actinide chemistry and nuclear material processing.

Typical topics include:

solvent extraction, ion exchange, dissolution and purification of unique materials, pyrochemical processing of actinide materials and used nuclear fuels, and development and implementation of analytical techniques for nuclear materials.

Conference presentations cover all aspects of fundamental and applied research related to recovery, isolation, and purification of actinides as featured in the following areas:

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Hydrometallurgy
  • Pyrometallurgy
  • Environmental Remediation
  • Medical Isotopes
  • Fission Product Chemistry
  • Separation Processes On-line Monitoring
  • Nuclear Material Recovery and Processing
  • Actinide Immobilization and Waste Forms
  • Flowsheet and Equipment Design and Modeling
  • Plant Scale Design and Operations

This conference is held yearly and is hosted on a rotating basis by one of seven DOE national laboratories (ANL, INL, LANL, LLNL, ORNL, PNNL, and SRNL) which perform R&D activities involving the actinide elements (thorium, uranium, neptunium, plutonium, americium, curium etc.).

Glenn T. Seaborg Actinide Separations Award

At the Actinide Separations Conference banquet, the Glenn T. Seaborg Actinide Separations Award will be presented to a U.S. scientist or engineer who has made outstanding and lasting contributions to the development and application of actinide separations processes and methodology.

  • The Seaborg Award shall be presented only to a scientist or engineer of U.S. nationality.
  • A recipient of the Seaborg Award shall have made a significant contribution to one or more of the areas described below:
    • Development of new and/or improved methods for the plant or laboratory scale recovery, separation, and purification of actinide elements
    • Basic research that is directly and clearly related to the separation of actinide elements
  • The recipient’s contributions in one or more areas of actinide separations shall be of current significance even though the work may have been performed many years prior to the nomination for the Seaborg Award.

The nomination form for the Seaborg Award must be submitted to Candido Pereira (pereira@anl.gov) by April 17, 2026.
