SRNL Receives NNSA Administrator’s Honor Award in Recognition of EURATOM Visit

October 6, 2025

AIKEN, S.C. — Savannah River National Laboratory received the National Nuclear Security Administration Administrator’s Honor Award in recognition of the accomplishments at the May 2025 European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) Bilateral Physical Protection Reciprocal Visit. This award represents global recognition of the first in class efforts taken to maintain the highest possible safety and security standards.

“I am honored to have been a part of the multidisciplinary team that facilitated this historic exchange with our European partners,” said SRNL engineer Cathy Ramsey. “This visit was a great example of our shared commitment to excellence at SRS and that we are prepared to offer transparency to support our bilateral agreements and advance peaceful nuclear cooperation.”

In the 67 years since the first section 123 Agreement between Euratom and the United States was signed, obligated material at SRS has been utilized to improve cancer treatment, facilitate technology development and advance the storage of spent nuclear fuel. This award embodies a history of international collaboration as well as ongoing efforts to accelerate the rapid development, deployment, and use of advanced nuclear technologies.

“I am incredibly proud of SRNL’s collaboration with SRNS, Centerra, and SRMC in facilitating a successful exchange with our European partners and demonstrating the United States’ enduring commitment to peaceful nuclear cooperation,” said SRNL’s Murry Smith.
