General Information

Purpose: Savannah River National Laboratory’s K-12 Catalyst Grants for STEM Education, sponsored by Battelle, is designed to fund STEM learning projects in classrooms and schools in the South Carolina and Georgia regions

Sponsored by: Battelle Savannah River Alliance, LLC., (Manager and Operator of Savannah River National Laboratory) and The Battelle Memorial Institute

Grades: K-12

Grant Amount: One-time grant of $2,500 or $5,000

Deadline: May 30th, 2026 at 11:59PM

Eligible Participants: The applicant must be a certified K-12 teacher or school administrator in public, charter, or independent STEM schools in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) incorporating STEM into the classroom curriculum. Religious schools are ineligible to apply.

Guidelines: Funds may not be used for furniture, cash, gift cards, salary, food, general office supplies not related to STEM activities, or sports. Everything purchased with the grant funds is to become property of the school. Everything purchased with the grant funds is to become property of the school/organization and must stay with the school/organization if the grantee (i.e., teacher) were to depart. Awards must be made to an organization or fiscal agent that is tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Service code 501(c)(3) or a governmental agency. A current and signed W-9 must be submitted with the application.

Reporting: Grantees will be required to complete an online Student Impact Report, which includes providing: an explanation of how the funds were used, a summary of the students impacted by the grant, a brief description of the implementation of the project, any barriers/concerns that arose, evaluations of the students, and at least one photograph and video. The Student Impact Report is due 30 days after the last day of school.

Award: Grants will be awarded in August 2026 with a ceremony to follow.

STEM Grant Proposal

Please attach a proposal for incorporating STEM education into your curriculum.

Proposals should not be more than three pages, single space, 12 font, 1 inch margin. This proposal should include:

Title of STEM project(s).
A summary of the inclusion of STEM education to your class(es).
Choose a requested grant amount of $2,500 or $5,000.
Budget necessary, formatted as a table. Direct links to requested supplies are required.
How you plan to implement the resources.
Projected outcomes and how the results will be measured.
